With the exam sessions in January, June and August, the Moretus Plantin University Library is in extended hours half of the year! For several years now, the hours have been further extended to accommodate students who prefer to study early in the morning and those who prefer to stay up late at night. And these extended hours measures have been a great success. The numbers speak for themselves: admissions have increased from 228,000 in 2016 to 488,000 in 2019.

In order to ensure a constant presence at the library desk, work has been organized accordingly. Scheduling the BUMP team and jobbers is no small feat during these study periods, as the library is open 7 days a week from 7:30 a.m. to midnight (including holidays).

The 10 librarians of the Public Pole are the direct interlocutors of the users and manage a multitude of tasks such as the borrowing and return of books, help in documentary research, ... Part of this team works on a staggered schedule, in order to ensure a presence at the end of the day, on weekends and holidays. They are relieved by students who work as jobbers. On several busy days, the team switches to "members only" mode until the end of the study period; access to the facilities is then reserved for UNamur members.

The least we can say is that the motivation is there and that everything is done to ensure calm and concentration for the exam students. An organization that is often overlooked and deserves to be highlighted! The BUMP is offering extended hours until June 22nd. Before going back to study period hours during the month of August! With this arrangement, the BUMP is the library of higher education offering the most extended opening hours in the whole Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
