The delegation went to Kaunas, European Capital of Culture 2022. The Rector signed a first agreement with Kaunas University of Technology (KTU) which will promote collaborations between the two universities in the fields of material sciences, smart cities, digital transformation and sustainable development.

A second agreement signed with Vytautas Magnus University will strengthen collaborations in the fields of multilingualism, the French language and artificial intelligence.

These new partnerships will allow UNamur to extend its international network and to participate in the internationalisation of the City and Province of Namur.

The Rector, Annick Castiaux, and the members of the Belgian academic delegation attended the awarding of a Doctorate Honoris Causa from the University of Vilnius to Koen Lenaerts, President of the European Court of Justice but also alumnus and DHC of the University of Namur.

Koen Lenarts, UNamur Doctor Honoris Causa

The President of the European Court of Justice, Koen Lenaerts, received the insignia of Doctor Honoris Causa from UNamur.  The ceremony took place on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Faculty of Law, which took place in October 2017. After completing his law degree at UNamur (1972-1974), he continued his studies at the KULeuven and Harvard University.

As a professor of European law at the KULeuven and the first judge of Europe, Koen Lenaerts puts into practice every day the values of openness and solidarity that he discovered during his studies in Namur.
