Olivier Vandecasteele has been working for humanitarian organisations in Iran since 2016. He is known to be a passionate, honest, committed, respectful and apolitical humanitarian leader. He has been detained since 24 February 2022 in Evin prison and is sentenced to 40 years in prison.
His family and friends have taken numerous steps to raise public awareness in Belgium, to sensitise the political world and to implement measures that could contribute to his release.
